Dr Maxwell is a University of Melbourne graduate who completed combined fellowships with the College of Physicians and the College of Pathologists in 1997. She trained initially at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centres and later the Alfred Hospital where she developed her interest in congenital and acquired bleeding disorders, thrombosis and transfusion medicine, particularly through her affiliation with the Alfred Haemophilia Centre and Haemostasis/Thrombosis Unit. Dr Maxwell is a member of the Clinical Practice Improvement Subcommittee of the ANZSBT, Chair of the Victorian Blood User Group and a member of the Serious Transfusion Incident Reporting (STIR) Working Group for Blood Matters, DHS Victoria.
