After graduating from the University of Adelaide, Dr Hayes commenced his training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital before moving to Melbourne where he completed his haematology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Austin Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital. He obtained his dual fellowship from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2008.
Since then he remains heavily involved in teaching, specifically in the areas of anticoagulation, blood bank transfusion and management of haematological malignancies in the elderly.
Dr Hayes joined Melbourne Pathology in 2008 and is responsible for setting up the Clinical Haematology Service of The Northern Health.
