A graduate of the University of Otago, New Zealand, Dr McQuillan completed a Bachelor of Medical Science in 1995 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 1998.
After working as an Intern at Newcastle in New South Wales, Dr McQuillan took up a position as a Resident Medical Officer at the Royal Darwin Hospital in 2000. He was appointed Resident Medical Officer and then Medical Registrar at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia from 2001-2003.
In 2004, Dr McQuillan was appointed Clinical Pharmacology Registrar at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he worked in clinical trial research. He then undertook five years of training as an Anatomical Pathology Registrar at various hospitals in Melbourne and Adelaide, completing his final year of training at the Royal Melbourne and Western Hospitals in 2009.
Dr McQuillan joined Melbourne Pathology in 2008 performing macroscopic cut-up duties and commenced as a Histopathologist in January 2010.
