Dr Story graduated from Monash University in 1975. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australiasia in 1988, before working at the Royal Southern Memorial in 1989 and then at the Repatriation Hospital Heidelberg in 1990 before moving to Tasmania to work at the Launceston General Hospital. Following this move, Dr Story was offered a position at Northwest Pathology (a Sonic subsidiary) where she worked for over 15 years. She moved back to Victoria to join Melbourne Pathology in September 2008.
