A graduate of Monash University, Dr Downey began his pathology training in 1977 at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Medical Centre. Two years later he became senior tutor in pathology at the Department of Pathology and Immunology in Monash University’s Medical School. Other career appointments have included Senior Registrar in Pathology at the University of Edinburgh Medical School’s Department of Pathology and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Specialist Pathologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Associate in the Department of Pathology at the University of Melbourne. In addition to his position at Melbourne PathoDr Downey is an honorary senior lecturer in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Monash University and is also the Medical Director at Cabrini Pathology in Malvern.
