Information for clinicians

Please note: we currently cannot accept patients with a referral for suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) at our collection centres. Patients will be referred back to their treating doctor for advice.

Testing for COVID-19

Any suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) case must meet the criteria as specified by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). 

Melbourne Pathology will send suspected coronavirus specimens to the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) to undertake confirmatory testing for COVID-19.
A secondary flu swab should be taken at the time of collection.
